For nearly 14 years, Red was not simply a dog—he was family, a constant companion, a source of comfort, and a protector. Red had plenty of little things that made him uniquely himself. He had a funny love for Bottle Caps candy and an undeniable obsession with empty plastic bottles, which quickly became his favorite chew toys. His family will always laugh about the times Red would find a bottle that still had something inside and immediately begin chewing on it, apparently without bothering to check whether it was actually empty. Before long, whatever was inside would be leaking or spraying everywhere, leaving behind a tremendous mess. Red, of course, would sit nearby looking completely innocent, as though he had no idea how the disaster had happened.

While Red strongly disliked truck rides and would have happily avoided them altogether, he absolutely loved playing at Grandma’s house on the hill. But perhaps his favorite place of all was right at home, curled up on the couch beside his daddy. If Daddy was on the couch, that was exactly where Red wanted to be.

Red gave his family nearly 14 years of unconditional love and companionship, though somehow even all that time could never have been enough. He taught them that love does not always need words. Through his loyalty, patience, protection, and unwavering companionship, Red showed them what unconditional love truly looks like.

He taught his family that a dog can become so much more than an animal. They become family. They become comfort. They become home. And sometimes, they become a piece of your soul.

Red leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless moments of love and laughter, and a place in his family’s hearts that can never be replaced.
