Maxx Hufnagle, a beloved eight year old Labrador and cherished member of his family, passed away on August 23, 2026, in Constantine, Michigan.

When asked what made Maxx special, his family’s answer was simple: everything.

Maxx was the greatest addition to their family, filling their lives with eight years of loyalty, laughter, companionship, and unconditional love. Every memory made with him became one worth cherishing. As his family so perfectly put it, Maxx was their favorite hello and their hardest goodbye.

Maxx was a gentle, loyal, and loving boy who wanted nothing more than to be near the people he loved. Of course, being near his family also meant there was a chance food might be involved. Maxx was a definite foodie, and there was hardly a treat he ever met that he didn’t like. If it was edible, chances were Maxx was interested.

He also had his own favorite adventures. One of his greatest joys was running circles around the pine tree, determined to chase the birds out as though keeping that tree bird free was one of his most important responsibilities.

Throughout his life, Maxx faced his share of health challenges, but he proved time and again just how resilient he could be. There were moments when his family feared they might have to say goodbye, only for Maxx to bounce right back. They often joked that perhaps their Labrador was actually a cat, because he certainly seemed to have nine lives.

Through every challenge, Maxx remained the same gentle and loving companion his family adored. He gave them his loyalty without question, his companionship without condition, and a kind of love that only a cherished pet can give.

The hardest part of loving a dog like Maxx is that no amount of time could ever feel like enough. His family will cherish every memory, every treat, every lap around the pine tree, and all of the ordinary moments that now mean so much more.

Maxx was more than a pet. He was family. He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
