Obituary

Geordi, a beloved companion and cherished member of his family, passed away on May 18, 2026, at the age of eight. From the very first moment he came into their lives, Geordi was unmistakably special. Bought from a long-time groomer who had unknowingly saved the last puppy for their family. Geordi immediately captured hearts by gently sitting on a foot and leaning in, despite not having been planned. With gangly legs, a big nose, and striking yellow eyes that earned him a look almost alien-like, Geordi’s unique appearance was the first glimpse of a remarkable spirit within.

Throughout his life, Geordi’s personality shone as gentle, silly, and devoted—a true Velcro dog who clung lovingly to those he trusted. As a youngster, he was a bit awkward, his back legs seeming slower than his front as he found his footing in the world. Yet, when given the freedom of a proper yard, Geordi sprang into his true self, gaining grace and earning the playful nickname “Prancer” from neighbors who admired the elegant way he danced through the grass. Despite his large, 65-pound frame, Geordi moved with quiet care, never stepping on toes or elbowing anyone aside. Instead, he perfected the ninja skill of positioning himself exactly where he could soak up the most affection, always ready to share warm cuddles or lighten the mood with a humorous burp.

Geordi was more than just a pet; he was a steadfast source of comfort and companionship. When his grandma underwent a heart bypass surgery, Geordi, at just two years old, became the ideal recovery partner—offering himself as a warm blanket of solace, a sympathetic presence, and a careful escort pace that reflected his deep care and understanding. His love was never conditional or flashy; it was quiet and unwavering, teaching those around him that sometimes simply being there is everything one needs.

Food held a special place in Geordi’s heart, especially the pungent allure of stinky fish skins, his favorite treat. Games of fetch brought unbridled joy as he flew effortlessly across the yard with toes barely grazing the ground. Yet at home, Geordi transformed into their “Geordi Bear,” a big, cuddly presence who would nudge close, lean into every available human, and settle into his cherished chair with all four paws stretched skyward. Watching him sleep—feet kicking, barking softly in dreams—was a glimpse into a soul overflowing with happiness, playful and full of life.

His first walk on a leash was legendary, likened to a marlin thrashing wildly on a line, evidence of his boundless energy and zest for life. But above all, what Geordi loved most was simply being with his humans—sharing quiet moments, wrapping himself delicately onto laps, soaking in every stroke of a hand. He gave them his whole heart in return.

Geordi Janca’s presence graced eight wonderful years, leaving behind memories steeped in simple and profound love. He showed his family that love doesn’t have to be perfect; that being there, quietly steadfast, is often the greatest gift. Though his paws will no longer dance in the yard or cuddle into laps, the warmth he gave will forever be felt—the tender echo of a beloved “Geordi Bear” who was, in every way, family.

A final message from his family:

Thank you for choosing to sit on my foot. You made our lives softer, warmer, and infinitely happier. We miss you terribly and love you always.
